Disney+ wins significant exclusive content, locking up rights to Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eraz Tour concert film.

On Wednesday, Walt Disney announced that Taylor Swift’s Erasure Tour concert film will premiere exclusively on its streaming platform Disney+ on March 15. The film will also feature five additional songs that will not be shown in theaters, as well as a complete concert of approximately two hours.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. The Arash Tour concert film has grossed over $261.6 million globally since its theatrical release last year, making it the highest-grossing concert film of all time.

“We are thrilled to be able to collaborate with one of the most prolific and influential artists of our time, Taylor Swift, to bring this exclusive content to Disney+,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger. “

As the streaming wars heat up, this deal marks a significant exclusive content win for Disney+. With Swift’s large worldwide fan base, the Eras Tour film is expected to be a significant driver in attracting newcomers to the platform.

Disney continues to massively expand its streaming content in an effort to compete with rivals like Netflix. This includes the $1.5 billion deal with Epic Games announced this week and significant investments in live sports.

The company’s shares rose more than 12% on Thursday as the streaming expansion continued. After a difficult 2023, Disney stock is now up more than 20% year-to-date.

Bringing an artist of Swift’s popularity to Disney+ boosts the platform’s credibility as it appeals to a broader demographic beyond families. The Eras Tour film is one of Disney+’s best achievements yet, as the streaming landscape becomes more fragmented.
